The governor of New Mexico has issued an emergency order to temporarily halt the carrying of guns, both openly and concealed, in Albuquerque.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Friday issued an emergency public health order that suspends the open and permitted concealed carry of firearms in Albuquerque for 30 days in the midst of a spate of gun violence.
The governor, who belongs to the Democratic party, mentioned that she anticipates facing legal disputes. However, she felt a strong obligation to take action in light of incidents of gun violence, such as the tragic killing of an 11-year-old boy near a minor league baseball stadium earlier this week.
