The authorities’s Scotland secretary Douglas Alexander has admitted it was a "mistake" to nominate Peter Mandelson and "significant lessons need to be learned" over the vetting course of.
Speaking to Sophy Ridge on Sky News he stated: "Peter Mandelson should not have been appointed as ambassador, the prime minister, by no means thoughts myself, accepts that was a mistake.
"It is possible that as well as the error in terms of the appointment of Peter Mandelson, there are significant lessons that need to be learned on process. One of those lessons that’s already been learned is the need to make sure that this deep vetting is undertaken prior to the appointment and announcement of these ambassadors."
