Trump: New ships can be ‘100 occasions extra highly effective’ than any battleship ever constructed

The US President has introduced "Trump Class" battleships for the US navy. It comes as US forces tried to intercept a Venezuelan-linked vessel in worldwide waters.

Addressing the media alongside mock-up photos of the brand new battleships, Trump says they would be the "flagships of the American naval fleet".

Made of metal and weighing in at 30-40,000 tonnes, he says the vessels can be armed with "guns and missiles" in addition to hypersonic weapons and "high-powered lasers".

"We have lasers where you aim the laser at a target and it wipes it out. The most sophisticated lasers in the world," Trump says.
