UK navy to be given powers to shoot down threatening drones, Defence Secretary to announce
The armed forces will obtain new powers to shoot down drones that threaten navy bases within the UK, the defence secretary will reveal.
John Healey will use a speech on Monday night to warn of the rising menace posed by unmanned aerial automobiles following an incursion into Polish airspace of 19 Russian drones in September and escalating Russian drone assaults towards targets in Ukraine.
"Here at home, we continue to defend ourselves daily from threats reaching from the seabed to cyberspace," he’ll say on the Lord Mayor of London Defence and Security Lecture, in line with excerpts of the speech launched by the Ministry of Defence.
