The Dow Jones Industrial Average index of 30 main corporations listed on US inventory exchanges dropped 1.6%, much more than the open yesterday.
The S&P 500 index of corporations, usually relied on to be steady and worthwhile, misplaced 2.3%.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq was down almost 3%.
