Veteran cupboard minister Michael Gove has been awarded a peerage in Rishi Sunak’s resignation honours record.

Mr Gove, now editor of The Spectator, was elected to Parliament in 2005 and joined David Cameron’s shadow cupboard.

He turned schooling secretary in 2010 and held a number of cupboard roles till stepping down on the 2024 normal election.

It is conventional for prime ministers to award peerages and different gongs upon their resignation from workplace – with key political allies, donors and employees typically rewarded.
