Walker’s tiebreaking homer in 8th inning helps Cardinals beat Phillies 6-5
On Sunday, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 6-5 with a tiebreaking home run by Jordan Walker in the eighth inning. Paul Goldschmidt also contributed by driving in three runs.
After being defeated in their first five encounters with the Phillies this year, St. Louis managed to avoid a complete season sweep.
Alec Bohm hit a home run for Philadelphia, who are currently in the lead for the NL wild-card race.
Walker homered off Seranthony Domínguez (4-5) with two outs to snap a 5-all tie.
John King, with a record of 2 wins and 1 loss, secured the victory by conceding only one run in a single inning. Ryan Helsley successfully obtained his 11th save out of 15 chances.
Goldschmidt’s solo home run in the fifth inning broke the 3-3 tie. Alec Burleson then hit a double, and Nolan Arenado singled, extending the St. Louis lead to 5-3.

In the eighth inning, Bohm hit a home run on his own, while Nick Castellanos evened the score with a single that resulted in an RBI.
In the third inning, Goldschmidt hit a double that brought in two runs.

Taijuan Walker, the starting pitcher for Philadelphia, allowed five runs on eight hits during a span of seven innings.
This was Philadelphia’s initial visit to St. Louis after sweeping their wild-card series last year and ultimately winning the National League pennant.

Cardinals: OF Tyler O’Neill was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right foot sprain, and INF/OF Juan Yepez was recalled from Triple-A Memphis. Yepez is riding a 17-game hitting streak, the longest current run in the minors.
