Eighty years after the Japanese surrendered, formally ending World War II, CNN’s Stephanie Elam sat down with U.S. Navy veteran John DeLeo, who served on the USS Missouri through the battle. DeLeo says he first boarded the Missouri in May of 1944 when he was 19 years previous. He recollects what life was like on the “Mighty Mo,” witnessing the aftermath of a Kamakazi assault and watching as members of the Japanese Imperial Government boarded the Missouri on September 2, 1945, to participate within the give up ceremony. #CNN #News
