Nursery employee jailed over dying of toddler suffocated in sleeping bag

A nursery employee has been jailed over the dying of a 14‑month‑previous boy who was suffocated as workers tried to make him go to sleep.

Kimberley Cookson was jailed for 3 years and 4 months for the gross negligence manslaughter of Noah Sibanda, and Fairytales Day Nursery in Dudley was fined £240,000 in addition to £56,000 in prices.

Wolverhampton Crown Court heard Cookson, 23, was captured on CCTV tightly wrapping Noah in a sleeping bag, putting a blanket over his head, and laying him face down in an indoor tepee on 9 December 2022.
