The Supreme Court’s conservative majority on Monday cleared the best way for Alabama to revert to a congressional map with one majority-Black district in a sudden ruling that drew a dissent from the courtroom’s three liberal justices.
Alabama officers had rushed as much as the courtroom late Friday asking it to halt a decrease courtroom ruling blocking it from utilizing a map it enacted in 2023 that features just one majority-Black district out of seven. It did so based mostly on the courtroom’s blockbuster resolution in late April coping with Louisiana’s congressional map that severely weakened the scope of the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965.
